A New Study Finds That Tomatoes Slow Decrease In Lung Function In Ex-Smokers

Lung cancer is the primary cause of cancer death in the United States, and the leading cause of lung cancer is also the most preventable, smoking cigarettes. While the most important thing that you can do prevent lung cancer is quit smoking, a new study by the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health finds that a diet rich in fruit, particularly tomatoes and apples, may slow lung function decline in ex-smokers.

The study, published in the European Respiratory Journal, compared adults who consumed less than one serving of fruit or tomato per day, to those who consume more than three servings of fruit of two servings of tomatoes per day. The results show slower lung function decline in those who eat more fresh fruits and tomatoes over 10 years.

In all adults observed, even those who have never smoked, slower decline was observed in those who ate tomato rich diets. While a diet change alone may not prevent disease, a healthy diet, particularly rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, is essential to the recovery process.

If you or someone you know is facing lung cancer, you have more options than ever before to pursue aggressive or nontraditional treatments, and more treatments are emerging regularly. It is important to consider the not only the treatments available to you, but also the causes of your lung cancer, and the legal tools you may have to pursue fair compensation if some other party is responsible for your illness.

Professional legal counsel ensures that you understand all your options and keep your rights secure so you can focus on the most important job you have, — your own physical recovery.

  • What should I bring to my initial consultation with a personal injury attorney?

Bring any relevant documents, such as medical records, police reports, insurance information, photos of the accident scene, and correspondence with insurance companies. This information will help your attorney at NGK Law Firm evaluate your case more effectively.

  • Can I still file a claim if I was partially at fault for the accident?
