Mark R. Niemeyer

Founding Partner

Mark R. Niemeyer is one of the founding partners of NGK Law Firm and a nationally recognized personal injury trial attorney with more than three decades of courtroom experience. He is known for handling high-stakes litigation against some of the world’s largest corporations and securing record-breaking results.

Mark’s path to plaintiff-side litigation began in public service. He started his legal career as a prosecutor in the city of St. Louis, where he handled serious criminal cases. He later joined the United States Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted complex criminal conspiracies and represented the federal government in civil matters.

While that work produced meaningful enforcement outcomes, Mark saw firsthand that corporate penalties often failed to provide real compensation to the individuals harmed by dangerous drugs, medical devices, and defective products. That realization ultimately led him to focus his practice on representing injured people and families.

Today, Mark applies his prosecutorial background to civil litigation, building cases designed to withstand trial scrutiny and forcing accountability through the courtroom when necessary.

National Mass Tort & MDL Leadership

Mark is frequently appointed by federal judges to leadership roles in multi-district litigation (MDL) and national mass tort proceedings. In these matters, he helps coordinate discovery, motion practice, settlement negotiations, and trial strategy on behalf of thousands of plaintiffs nationwide.

His leadership roles allow him to remain closely connected to individual clients while working alongside top trial lawyers across the country to address systemic misconduct involving pharmaceuticals, medical devices, pesticides, and consumer products.

  • Yaz / Yasmin MDL – Appointed national Co-Lead counsel in 2009; helped lead the litigation to a $1.8 billion global settlement involving serious clotting and stroke injuries.
  • Pradaxa MDL – Appointed national Co-Liaison counsel in 2012; played a central role in achieving a $650 million settlement for patients who suffered catastrophic bleeding events.

Beginning in 2016, Mark was appointed to the National Plaintiffs’ Settlement Committee for the Taxotere (Docetaxel) MDL pending in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. In this role, he oversees settlement efforts for thousands of women who suffered permanent alopecia after chemotherapy treatment.

Mark is also responsible for the coordination and oversight of additional national litigations consolidated in St. Louis, Missouri, including cases involving:

  • Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide and its link to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
  • Janssen’s Risperdal antipsychotic medication and gynecomastia injuries
  • Testosterone replacement therapies manufactured by AbbVie and others, associated with heart attacks and blood clotting injuries

These cases require extensive coordination among attorneys nationwide, management of complex scientific and medical evidence, and close supervision of discovery, expert development, and resolution strategy.

Trial Experience & Results

Mark is known for taking difficult cases to verdict and presenting complex scientific and technical evidence in a way that juries can understand. In fact, he has tried more than 40 civil and criminal jury trials to completion. His courtroom results reflect a willingness to litigate aggressively when fair resolutions are not offered.

Some of his most notable case results include:

  • $745 million jury verdict in a wrongful death case involving nitrous oxide (“Whip-It”) distribution.
    • Largest personal injury verdict in Missouri in 2023.
  • $11 million jury verdict against Stanley Black & Decker for a staple gun that shot out a client's eye.
    • Largest verdict in U.S. history for the loss of an eye.
  • $3.8 million jury verdict for exposure to aristolochic acid, causing that caused failure and cancer.
